Pierre Huyghe, Marina Abramovic, and David Eagleman (Interview)

Pierre Huyghe's style and outlook on art is very refreshing; his belief in creating and entering a world that will be built through his work is fascinating. He's challenging the distinction between reality and fiction, showing that fiction can almost be as tangible as reality in everyday life, and that is pretty admirable. His work is not just narrative either; he's constructing a landscape that is more emotional, and that is more likely to resonate with people when they come across it. Huyghe's experience with multiple kinds of film, installations, and public events seems to contribute to this, and it is easy to see he is someone who is well-rounded and willing to work with new concepts or ideas, which is very beneficial when it comes to art, and leading the way for a different kind of work.

Most people wouldn't think of using the body as a medium, but Marina Abramovic has found an interesting way to do so. She doesn't just stick to painting, but instead creates an image, or a photograph, where she can act and immerse herself in a role. That alone is seeing how far creativity can go; she's stretching the boundaries by using a not-so-common medium, and that is really a cause for intrigue.

The interview with David Eagleman was certainly something else; it's a real eye-opener when it comes to talking about our conscious and how we really may not be making some decisions ourselves. It's crazy to think that our brains have so much capacity to process everything they do and influence exactly how we act and think. That how one little thing, whether it be a traumatizing experience or even a chemical imbalance, can change how our brains function and send signals around in order to carry out tasks. The idea that our brains have rivaling populations is fascinating too, like when you have a secret and part of you wants to share it, but the other part doesn't. A part of the brain knows keeping that secret is stressful and just wants to get rid of it while the other part is afraid of the consequences of telling the secret and would rather withhold it. Therefore, a conflict is created. It is also crazy to think that an idea is not really our own, but rather something the brain came up with after taking in and processing days, weeks, months, or even years of data. All of this just makes you wonder about the way that you are, and how much of your conscious really affects what you do in your everyday life.
